DAR ES SALAAM Tanzania, Capital Markets in Africa — The Bear ruled the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange equity market on Tuesday and the equity market capitalization plunged by TZS 13.95 billion (about US$6.5 million) to end at TZS 22,321.11 billion relative to market capitalization of TZS 22,335.06 billion recorded at previous trading session.
The Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange index (DSEI) dropped 1.36 points or 0.05 percent to end at 2,550.38 points. The Tanzanian domestic Share Index sagged by 5.61 points or 0.12 percent to close at 4,649.66 points.
The Banks, Finance & Investment sector index remained flat to close at 2,994.37 points. Industrial & Allied sector index fell by 0.17 percent or 10.46 points to close at 6,291.59 points and Commercial services sector index remained constant to settle at 4,057.90.
Today, the Dar Es Salaam Stock Exchange recorded a total turnover of TZS 1,418.28 million from 137,423 shares traded in 99 deals compared to the previous session which recorded a turnover of TZS 45.33 million from 51,922 shares traded in 67 deals. CRDB had 24,393 shares traded in 27 deals and National Microfinance Bank exchanged 12,926 shares in 23 deals. Tanzania Breweries Limited traded 87,980 shares in 7 deal. DCB Commercial recorded 5,940 shares traded in 5 deals. TWIGA traded 3,961 shares in 1 deal and Swissport Tanzania Limited had turnover of 2,108 in273 deals.
On the market strength/breath perspectives, the markets breathe ended negative today, with no gainers and 3 losers. Tanzania Breweries Limited sagged 0.26 percent to settle at TZS 15,210, Tanzania Portland Cement Company plunged by 0.26 percent to close at TZS 3,790 and Swissport Tanzania Limited traded at TZS 7,590 after losing 0.13 percent.
